Hi, thought i would post a picture of Loopy Lou.

My family is now complete, Fishes, 2 Dogs and our Cockatoo, not forgetting my 2 darling little children too.

We have only had Loopy Lou since Easter, the lady who had her before, could not find enough time for her and was getting fed up with her loud screaching.

Since she has been with us, she has settled in really well, she is out of her cage for about 7 - 9 hours and her screaching is not a problem, she likes to have a call out in the afternoon and evening, but it doesnt go on for long and at least it shows she is happy.

Hope you enjoy my picture.

She beautiful  I've always wanted one - but due to their demanding (and destructive beahviour when they don't get the attention and stimulation they need) I've never been able to have one (yet).
How old is she ?

She looks really sweet and looks to be in great condition! :D

I never understand why people buy cockatoos and then moan about the noise  Do they do no research at all?!! Its sounds as though she's very happy in her new home :)

She is approx 9 months old, she is very demanding, but she will play in her cage nicely, I am constantly looking for toys to kepp her stimulated, filling boxes up, with different types of paper etc.

At the moment I am trying to stop her from flying to my computer table, as she likes to try to bite the screen, within the first few days, i was out of the room for a few minutes, and she totally ruined the tv remote control.

Yes they can be noisy but i like hearing her and watching her stretch her wings out.

She flys to my arm when i call her and loves to get tickled on her head, she puts her claw to her head and says tickle and she can say hello too.

I love her lots.

What a beautiful lady she is
Cockatoos are my fave group of birds, hands down. I'm saving up for a galah myself.

See, that's one of the top reasons WHY I buy a bird. I like the noise. It keeps you company. That being said, there are levels of noise. Canaries make very different noises than Cockatoos. Would I buy a Cockatoo, probably not, they're great, but I don't think I'd have the time for one and my neighbors are mean and wouldn't like the noise. But the people that want a quiet bird, now that really doesn't exist. Healthy birds chatter all day long, they are social creatures.

Loopy Lou is a lovely bird. Enjoy her, they live a long time.

hi,
what a heathy looking bird,im sure she will be very happy with all the attention she will now be getting,
my roamer(black headed caique) has a yell about morning and dusk, she always falls to sleep at 8pm,
they do like routine, good luck with her ,shes now a member of your family,im sure you will have lots of fun together, all the best donna :) .

Thanks Synirr, The Galah is a lovely cockatoo, so pretty, good luck with your savings. She will be worth every penny.

lljdma06, thanks, she defitnately keeps you company and on your toes when she is out, luckily my neighbours are friendly, so i have had no complaints about noise, so everything is working out perfectly.

Thanks donna123, Loopy Lou chats away in the morning, but her main call out is in the afternoon and middle of the evening, we are getting into a good routine now, she wont settle down till 10pm thou, at the moment she is having a lovely chew on some pine branches - trying to keep her contented so she will not keep attacking my computer.

What a cutie, i enter that pic for the pet of the month as it a sweet pic.

Cheers Wilder, that sounds fun - i have not done that before -

How do i enter her into pet pic of the month? Have looked at the pinned post but still none the wiser.

You usually need two nominations and then you reply to the post in the pinned section for May's POTM. They have directions in the first post, but you have to insert a link to this thread in your post in that thread. Hope that explains it alright.

By the way, here's your second nomination.

I second the nomination for Loopy Lou for POTM. :D

Good Luck in the POTM :D If you dont want her flying you could always clip her. If its done properly it shouldn't bother the bird at all. My two conures are unclipped but i am thinking of re doing it so they can come outside again. My Cape is clipped and is much happier that way as he gets to come everywhere with me now! :D

Synirr - I had a Galah :D They are fantastic birds, great little characters and so affectionate but a LOT of work, and although they are one of the quieter 'toos if they're not getting enough attention (or think they're not lol!) then just about everyone within 10 miles will hear him  But as lljdma06 says, all birds are noisy, give them the attention they need and they're not so noisy, but i too like a bit of talking and chirping! :D Although my birds are sometimes too quiet!! Im sure you'll be a very good 'too owner though, i look forward to hearing about it when you've saved up enough! :D (p.s. try some local rescues ;) )

Although my birds are sometimes too quiet!!

Of course you do know that when all pets that are normally noisy are suddenly quiet, it's for one of two possible reasons.

1. They're asleep

Or more likely

2. They are doing something that they ain't supposed to be doing! Ain't that the truth! :p

 :shout:

lljdma06, Thanks for the second nomination, i will try and do it after dinner.

Your last comment made me laugh it is so true, when we leave the room, Lou will call out for a while not madly loudly and when she goes quiet - you need to rush back into the room as she is normally doing something she shouldnt be.

Good job our lounge needs to be re-decorated as she has pulled some of the wallpaper off, wont need a steamer to get it off, just let Lou at it.

Hi Jessica13, I have thought about having her wings clipped, just so unsure what to to, I spoke to a vet and she said, 'no good vet will do it, as it is not fair' (so that put me off) We have an avian vet about 30 mins drive away, i might give them a call and see what they think. She likes to have a fly around the room - she doesnt do it alot (3-4 times a day she will do a lap) It would be nice to have her outside, she sits out their in her cage when we have had warm days - and she loves it.

chocgirl, the vet you spoke to is full of bologna if you ask me! Wing clipping is not a permanent procedure, so there's absolutely no harm in trying it once to see if you and your 'too like the benefits it brings :). It's a very common thing to have done, and any vet worth a hoot will recommend it in certain situations.
Personally, I don't clip my birds except when I get a new one and am taming it down because I have small birds and it's too risky for me to take them outdoors out of their cages anyway (cats, hawks, you name it,) but for your bird I think it'd be a fun thing for the two of you to do together ^_^
