Looking To Upgrade Powerheads

I have a 75 gallon that houses mostly softies and a couple LPS. I also have a 30 gallon sump. For movement I have 2 maxi jet 1200's and a koralia 4. Something happened to my koralia and it has stopped working. Now I would like to upgrade my powerheads. Since there are many MJ mods available on the market I was thinking of upgrading the two I have now and purchasing two more MJ1200's and upgrading them as well. I'm not sure if this is the best route.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I am not looking to spend in the 200+ range so the Tunzes are out.

Three Tunez 6025's would give about the same flow rate, for about £120 for all three, see the link; http/cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWA:VRI so thay are actually still in your budget The MJ's are also up-to-the-job, but they are consuming more power in doing so... Four MJ 1200's would eat 60W of energy, where 3 6025's would take 18W.... (based on the Tunez instruction manual, not the details in that link) so the Tunez are cheaper to run...

It would work out cheaper to get another pair of MJ's, but the Tunez will pay for themselves in power costs. Your call

Thank you both for the replies. I agree with both of you. The Tunzes would be terrific and is definitely on my list. I already have pruchased one of the MJ mods and stuck it in the tank. It does provide a humongous flow.

What I was thinking, and I'm going to have to save my pennies for is for the Vortech. I saw some youtube threads and it creates one hell of a wave surge. I was thinking that, along with 2-3 tunzes for complete flow.

What do you think?

They are but they create a lot of movement. I may not even need the tunzes. So I'll save on not having 4 powerheads in my system.
