Hey guys, I've found I've kind of been neglecting my 37 gallon tank. I'm figuring it probably has to do with the fact that whenever I change something or move something or remove something, my female convict goes into rage mode and tries to murder everything. She's unstable. Insane.
I'm figuring it's about time I rehome the girl. She's been my favorite for some time, but after a while it's just so many kinds of not worth it.
I've got a customer from work coming over tuesday to pick up some mature filter media from me, and she's looking to start up a aggressive tank, I think glory would be just right for her.
And if she's moving, I think the red eyes and khulis are gonna go too. Sorry crossfire, I think I like cories better
not to mention the lid on my tank broke, which makes a good excuse to get a new lid and some appropriate lights for the setup
And with that, I wanna do something... different. Not looking for Central/South American Cichlids for this tank, they only deserve so much love, and I've got plenty of love for them in my 75 gallon.
Here are some specs for you guys.
37 US gallons (30"x12"x24")
75 gallon bio wheel filter
Tap pH 7.6
Hard Water (unsure of exact GH and KH)
Things I'm interested in:
3 spot gouramis
pearl gouramis
tanganyikan fishes (especially julidochromis)
Ghost catfish (gonna be species only if I get these)
Killifish
Anything different, but not delicate
My eyes are mainly set on the julidochromis. Is my tank big enough for some julis? what else could go with them? How would I make the big height on the tank not wasted space in this case? how hardy are they? On another note, if you have to increase hardness by adding the aragonite based sand, wouldn't doing a big water change risk putting them in pH shock, or does the sand really work quickly enough to keep up with it? What other african cichlids would work aside from jewels and kribs?
If I were to make a ghost catfish species only, how many ghost cats would fit in the tank? What kind of driftwood/plants should I use to replicate their natural environment?
What kinds of fishes fit well with 3 spot gouramis? Which one is the natural color of a 3 spot; blue or gold? (I'm assuming opaline isn't)
thanks much
