Hey all, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me some advice on stocking please?

I have a 207 ltr tank with 9 female betta, 1 female guppy, 1 pearl gourami and a pair of Laetacara araguaiae. I plan on getting a bristle nose plec in the near future, but I really would like some shoaling fish in there too. My group of female betta are all pretty laid back and don't bother anyone else in the tank, and the Laetacara keep to themselves too.

I was interested in danios, but then I realised that they'd probably be too active for my female betta, and their temperature range is quite low.

I'm really interested in some sort of rainbow fish- could anyone recommend a good species that would go well with my other tank mates?
If not, then any ideas for some good shoaling fish- I'm after colour more than anything :)
I've had neons, black widows, embers, black neons, silver tips and serpae tetra before now, so I'd like to try something new :)

Thanks for any suggestions :good:

Here are my suggestions for good shoaling species:
Celebes Rainbowfish
Forktail Blue-eye Rainbowfish or any type of Blue-eye rainbowfish
Cherry Barbs
Rummynose Tetra
Glowlight Danio
Espei Rasbora
Hengeli Rasbora
Scissortail Rasbora
Harlequin Rasbora
Congo Tetra
Cardinal Tetra

I'm really liking the congo tetras, although after researching them, it seems that I have the bare minimum tank size suitable- any idea on how big a group could I have? And would it be possible to have another shoal of smaller fish, rummynoses or harlequin rasbora for example with them?

If not, could dwarf neon rainbows work?
Cheers for the suggestions!

EDIT: Forgot to say that my pH is 6.4 and the water is soft. I keep the temp at 25C, it's a well planted tank with a good amount of swimming space but still offers lots of cover.

Sorry for the double post, I don't know why it does this sometimes.

Congo Tetra and Dwarf Neons Rainbowfish both grow to be quite chunky so in your tank, you should pick one or the other. Then you can have a shoal of any small tetras or rasbora (your tank temp is too high for danios), in this case Rummynoses would be the best if your after colour. In your tank, you could have 6 Congo Tetras and 8 Rummynose Tetra. After that I reckon you'd be fully stocked.
Carl ;)

That sounds grand :D I definitely don't want to push my stocking limits too far, so that sounds like a good stocking. Of the two, congos or dwarf neons, which would be the better match?
Sorry for all the questions- just trying to do me research before I buy anything ^^'

IMO Congo Tetras are much more nicer colourful fish. My male is all sorts of colours and also, he has learnt to be handfed by me. The females are less colourful but are still lovely fish. I've never kept Dwarf Neons Rainbowfish, but the ones in my fish shop have NO colour and are very skittish. Apparently, a Neon Rainbowfish gains its full colour when its full grown.

I think I'm sold on the Congo Tetras :D What would be a good ratio for my tank? Could I get away with 2m 4f? Or would 1m 5f be better?

Thanks for all your help XD I can't wait to get these guys :D

Brilliant :good: Thanks muchly again!
