Im looking for something that is not a fish that would go ok in my freashwater tropical tank, with red eye tetras, black neons, white cloud mountain minnows, marbled hatchets, one lazy plec(whos about 3 inches now) and one Synodontis eupterus(the one thats probably going to be the problem).
I clean my tank every week and it has an undergravel filter and and a large regular filter(so theres a small current and its very well oxygenated). I also have dense vegetation.
Anything amphibian/crustacean is good but i need something that will not get eaten by my syno(whos just under 4 inches long, but never bothers the other fish). The water in my tank is very clean, but the tank is covered in algae that im too lazy to scrub off(theres alot of it and even when i do, i just comes back), so something that eats that would be a bonus :) . Its not a huge tank, but judging by the annual growth of the fish it will last me another year and a bit and i have some room for a few more small fish. Im planning on getting a larger tank eventualy(maybe christmas) so space isnt an issue.

Anyone got any suggestions? If nothing fits these criteria i may set up a small planted tank...

Maybe some African Dwarf Frogs, some kind of shrimps?

Shrimp would be a good choice. Since you have algea growing and your tank is established, any kind of algea eating shrimp or filter feeding shrimp would be okay. Amano and Bamboo shrimp get large (3 to 4 inches, easily) and they have a tough shell so they might not get eaten.

If you want to get something REALLY cool Google "Giant African Filter Shrimp". (I've been DYING for one of these, but don't feel brave enough to try my hand at keeping them.)

Ok, next time i pop into my lfs, i'll get some amano shrimp or bamboo shrimp :D. That giant aftican filter shrimp looks cool, but i have no idea where to get one, and im sure anywhere that would hae them would be really expensive. Does anyone know if it true that shrimps add nothinbg to the bioload? Because i can get 20 amano shrimps for £20, but i dont know what id do with that many....
Thanks for the replie :) :thanks: s!

They do add to the bioload just not that much. Try getting like 5 to 10 :good:

Cool. I have £10 to spend on fish/shrimp at the moment, so it depends how much they are at the lfs -_- .

Amano shrimp are expensive! £2.75 for one thats to puny even my tetras could eat in one go! The only other shrimp they had were "freshwater shrimp" were bigger, but small enough for my syno to eat them. On friday i'll try my other good lfs(which isnt so local) before i resort to pets@home.
