Right now i have a couple angels and a couple rams, a synodontis eupterus, and a striped raphael catfish. I am looking to add more to the tank, and i guess since it is pretty mucha cichlid tank i will stick to that. It is a heavily planted 60 gallon tank, with LOTS of filtering going into it (magnum 350 and rena xp2) there is driftwood and lots of hiding places. I am looking for something obviously that is non agressive, african cichlids welcome too, since they seem to be tamer, but the fish i have now are in this section so i posted here. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I want something that will do ok by itself, may be one friend (dont really wanna deal with breeding) and is peaceful. I was looking at cockatoos and kribenises, but any other ideas?

I would look into archocentrus spinosissmus. small very peaceful and won't turn your plants into the salad bar at a resturant. in fact they need floating plants to breed. they place their fry on these floating plants and protect them there.

it might be worth remembering that cichlids can be territorial little snots in comparison to tetras or livebearers. "cichlid tanks" should really be either "african rift lake communities" or "one type of cichlid per level". since you've already got top and bottom dwelling cichlids, you're left with room for cichlids to live in your middle only. unless you are stocking other fish large and tough enough to take the aggression that most readily available cichlids seem to be willing to dish out. there are a few cichlids that are relatively peaceful such as keyholes, rams (which you have), several other types of dwarf cichlids, and festivums (but i'm not positive on that). as always, if it fits in a fish's mouth it could easily become dinner.

i suggest that you call it a day on introducing more cichlids and get some hardy schooling fish instead.

and its not reccommended to mix african rift lake and new world cichlids--they have completely different needs and attitudes.

(edits in italics: that sound better?)
