I am soon to be moving my L260's to another tank, hopefully to breed. They are currently in our 4ft community tank, which is a very peaceful tank.

I have found some L134's and L204's at various LFS's and was wondering what their behaviour is like. I have researched their feeding and tanks needs, but wanted to know what others have thought of these two. I am looking for plecs that aren't too shy (our L260's are pretty shy). We are also looking at plecs that don't get too big and these two are the right size for us.

Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks :D

I have an L134 - have only had it for around a month, but from what I have seen, it is a very shy fish. Apart from the day I got it (when I had the foresight to get some pics, otherwise I'd never have had any :p ) it has never been anywhere other than hidden under something whilst the lights are on.

It is a nice fish, but if you're looking something more visible in your tank when the lights are on, IME, this is not the fish for you.

HTH

You've got to remember - Plecs are mainly nocternal.

If you have lights on in the tank they are even move unlikely to be seen once they have found a hiding place :).

Our 134's are relatively non- shy - but they are in the study and dont have a lot of exposure to people - If they see me - they are off and hiding.

Tell that to my L204 and BNs, Smithrc, they dont know they're supposed to be nocturnal, they're always out and about. As is my rusty.

From what I've heard, L204s are supposed to be quite feisty when kept with their own kind. I wouldn't know as I've only got the one, but he shares with a BN and a rusty, and he gets along well with them - sticks up for himself if rusty's being a b*gger, and yet doesnt start anything so is peaceful enough to be in with my BN :) Lovely fish.

Thanks for the replies guys. Since we are moving a few of our fish out of the tank (to other tanks) and will have more space, do you think these two would get on together?? I will be removing most of my cories, only leaving the Sterbai behind and removing my L260's, leaving the red whiptails and my albino BN.

:D

you can 'turn' them into day fish, but it can take a while if you get wild caught.

Tank bred and used to people, and your fine :)

99% of 134's and 204's will be wild caught and will take a while to get used to the new plan.

Thanks SmithRC

We have 2 L260's. One I know is definitely wild caught and he only comes out if it's feeding time, doesn't really do much else, but does sleep out in the open. The female on the other hand, we think might be tank bred, since there were about 15 of them in the tank when we got her and they were all the same size. She is very friendly. I take loads of pics of her and she occasionally swims around the tank looking for the male. She comes out every feed and doesn't shoot off when the kids come in. When we first got her, she was shy, but only for a while.

So would she have 'turned' into a day fish? We're moving them because I want to attempt breeding, and will be getting another male as soon as everything is settled.

Oh, have you and the missus become parents yet???

Thanks again
Carmen :D

Enjoy your sleep while you can  You won't be getting much of that once little RC arrives. Wish both you and Lorna all the best and I look forward to plenty pics of the new bundle, once he/she arrives.
