ive been everywhere looking for an ammonia source to cycle my tank but with no luck, ive tried my local B&Q, Homebase, several different Boots, local chemist and lfs and they all seem to look at me funny when i ask for ammonia.

does anyone have any suggestions for the UK? maybe somewhere i can buy some online and perhaps someone here could even sell me some?

thanks.

Just put four prawn in a net bag in the tank, and change them every few days, just as good so i've heard.

It will get you started while you can get some ammonia.

as the prawns rot they relase amonia....

just keep changing the prawns every few days so the tank dosent end up to messy

Can't understand why Boots don't sell it, I got it easily at mine. 9.5% solution and maybe it's only the bigger branches that stock it. It's under household cleaning products.

There must be 3 or 4 branches in your area and the towns surrounding it. I'd say it's much easier as a beginner than using the prawns as you know exactly how mcuh you're adding.

If it were me I'd get a phonebook and ring up some Boots branches.

ive tried 2 small boots outlets, but there is a much bigger one in the city centre, ill go check it out tommorow maybe.

its in a plain white plastic bottle with a blue cross on the front i`ll post a pic of it when the batterys have charged in the camera

Tryed boots chemist online and cant find any ammonia.

I got the 'Boots Household Ammonia' too.

Had to ask them where it was but I'm not too hot at finding stuff in there anyway. Took me straight to it where the cleaning products are.

Boots Manchester was the one I used.

Weird, I can go to any local supermarket and pick up a whole gallon of ammonia....

all i get is funny looks in supermarkets :/ yet still they always ask "what is it for?" and i get even stranger looks when i say "my fish tank"
