i will be getting my new FH at the end of the month and knowing that its probably going to be a lone fish in the tank due to its possible aggressive nature i am willing to try a pleco to seee how it goes.

so its got to be a tough pleco just incase the FH does have a nip from time to time. im also looking for something that bit different so not thinking of commons or gibbis unless it has to be that way. it would also be a help if it were to enjoy algae as part of its diet just to help in the tank as there will be no fast growing plants etc to help use up any nitrates and Flowerhorns are big messy eaters so there may be a need for a plec to help clear up any food the FH drops.

is there such a fish?

the tank is a 5x2x2 so no tank busters please.

i have a thing for panaques, would a decent sized one be ok?

What do FH's eat?

If it is a heavy protein diet then a Panaque would be a bad choice for the clean up crew.

Hi mike, glad you saw this thread i was hoping you would see it.

FH diet is quite a high protein one tbh and plenty of it 2-3 times a day...

it doesnt really have to be a plec, any catfish will do but i guessed that with the armour plating they stand the best chance.

I have a marmalade plec needs a home he doesnt like the pink catfish,Jean.
marmalade plec....? pink catfish....? do you have any pics of them?

A smaller Pseuda species would work, L24, L160, L114 something like that
wow loving all of those species mike... especially the L24 and L114 2 plecos that ive always fancied tbh but very pricey and hard to find at a decent size...

Saw a lovely L155 at Romsey WOW yesterday with JDs4me. must have been ~30cm, the staff said they though he would not grow any further, but I looked up the species at PlanetCatfish last night and they reach ~60cm in theory.

How about a Synodontis angelica, or if you want something more diurnal in a tank with less intense lighting, a Synodontis notata?

yeah the L155 get pretty huge. i remember seeing one at oddballs.

i dont think a syno would be able to stand up to a FH tbh. the more armour the better i think. maybe i shouldnt have sold my megalodoras
