it pains me to say that i have given in to my sons nagging for a lizard or similar, he was offered a lizard of somekind but i flatley refused as it was living in a fish tank 2 inches wider than the length of it ( just had a bad feeling)- the bloke told him that if he had a bigger viv he would get lost (??)
if we had to have something i would like a bearded dragon.. but its not me that will be looking after it ;)
*needs to be relatively easy to care for
*needs to be known as freindly
all the info you can give us to get us started will be much appreciated, we havent(he hasnt) got anything in mind just yet and i have told him i will ask on here and when we have a few replies he will have something to reaserch
also can u give us required maintence on vivs etc :)

oh and nothing slimey!!! ( thats an absolute must!!)

cheers in advance,, and feel free to ask me anything you like

I have bearded dragons the min size viv for a adult is 4ft x 2ft the can go in a foot smaller but this will give it plenty of room there is a good reptile shop in dunfermline called serpentus exotics he charges £285 though, but thats the baby bearded dragon plus vivarium and food for 2 weeks they also give you a care package and trade the old tank for a bigger one when its 6 mnth old for £50 and takes your old vivarium and sets it all up for you and gives you the adult feeding guide. you also get to handle them and be shown how to do this, and he gives you a 24/7 contact number for them if you want more info i will let you know hope you dnt mind insects ( crickets ) and other types lol they cost about a tenner a week to feed at a young age but does get cheaper as they get older hope this helps

i think it depends on what space you have to a large extent. obviously like we can all say oscars are fantastic pets, if you've only space for a 20gal tank then it's not gonna work out!

if you're a touch limited on space then something like a leopard gecko is great to start out with and is comfortable in a 2 foot viv (people keep them in smaller but knowing you you'll want to make sure whatever you get has a lovely home).

gee thankz for that Denise, tonnes of info.. we have plenty of room for that size of tank, but my dilema now would be * i can get an oscar in that space :shifty: * lol
theres a little shop across the road from us in Dundee, but speaking to the owner in there she says shes actually banned from keeping pets of any kind at the moment ( very reassuring :hyper: ) so maybe we will go and have a look in Dunfermline to get a feel,oh theres also a place in moniefieth (sp) have been in a few times for wood, maybe we will have a look in there over the weekend too.
cheers for that nosoup, we will both have a read of that, and see if he still wants one at the end, im certainly not rushing into it..no impulse buys here!!
hmmm i think the live foods would bother me,But like a baby they have to be fed,so thats a hurdle i will have to overcome.
thanks to you also Miss Wiggle for your input, ive covered the size/space thing in my reply :)

any more for any more ??

If u lived closer u could have met them lol to see if u liked them as adults lol they both are 5 year old. i wasnt patient to wait for a baby bearded dragon lol

would definately reccommend a beardie for a beginner. as with all things the correct equipment is essential but affordable and they're great.

We just picked up another young beardie today our second.

oh Denise theyre stunning, look at Lisa up there lol, well im sold on them, all i have to do now is pursuade my son that a bearded dragon is what he wants :shifty:
aww they are really beautiful, i didnt think i would ever fancy this sort of pet,but im really really warming to them
thanks for being considerate enough to post pics for us :)
