I am looking for a larger fish that would go well with a school or barbs and tetra's for a 37g tank. Would like a center piece fish so to speek. Any ideas of one?

What exact fish do you have? I think tiger barbs tend to fin-nip too much for a pair of gouramis or angelfish. Also with a 37 gallon, I don't think you have room for a group of discus.

i wasnt sayin a group of discus..he just wants one

and yeah barbs do fin-nip

they want *one fish*

big

discus was all i could think of

It was my understanding that discus should be kept in groups... I do concede I'm no expert on discus; I have never kept them.

they are. definately not alone anyway.

what about a pair of new guinea red rainbow fish?

mine look longer than that tho so i think the pics a bit distorted.

how about a pair of gold/blue/opaline gouramis?

The gourami suggestion is good. A pair of Opaline gouramis would lood great. How about Angels? You had mentioned barbs, but not specifically Tiger barbs. Not all barbs fin nip. A pair of large Angels would look great with a shoal of Danios, Tetras or Barbs. You could also put in a pair or a single Firemouth Cichlid. They grow to a fair size and are very colourful!
