Well, the cycle is going well on our "thin" tank, and our thoughts turn to permanent decoration and aquascaping.

We currently have a gravel base with an UGF (although an Eheim is winging its way to us a the moment).

The tank is 61" long.......by 6.5" wide......by 24" deep.......

Fish:
Gonna be a swarm of neons
Bunch of Platy's (orange wagtails)
Bunch of Harlequins
3 Bristlenose Cats

We are unsure whether to go the "long length of bogwood" route......or a few piles of stones/rocks.....

And any suggestions for plants.......we want it fairly tidy.......but lush, so the fish are swarming in and out of the greenery......

I suggest you have a look at this thread:

In which -rain set up a lovely planted tank, instead of using chunky bogwood she used long, thin, tree branches - looks ace! I think something similar would work for your tank because they won't take up much space but will still provide stuff for fishes to swim in and out of. :) also...no offence...but do you think the tank is really suitable for bristlenoses? cos they get to 4" and the tank is only 6" wide so i don't see how they're gonna turn round.

bristle noses are really flexable and swim in any direction and angle - they should be fine in there.

if it were a 'normal' fish that swam upright and got to the same sort of size then i'd say no but bristles should be fine.

I'd go for a long piece of twisty lianna (sp)
That would look great in a long tank and is less bulkie than other woods.

Hi
I'd go for both, but then thats me. :dunno:
I can't wait to see pics with the fish in it :)

Thanks for the link Cluttery.

I have had a look through and yes, that is the sort of effect I am after (although Emma wants to see the garden through one end of it  ).

Wood:

I have had a look through the "sticky" on wood.......very interesting.........however, is there any other recommendations on what wood you can or can't do. Rain used "apple" in that example...

.....presumably pretty much any dead wood should be OK.........as long as it is dead......

.......and presumably as long as it is boiled or oven dried or somehow "set" or "cured" it should be OK..........

Any thoughts??

maybe you could have wood on one side of the tank and rocks on the other. where you place the rocks the tank could be a little less planted so you could see out to the garden. i'm so excited to see your tank, it looked like it has a lot of potential in previous pics you've posted.

probably if you arranged it right you could make little "windows" through which teh garden would show...

Def.........yes I am the same guy........

The UGF was already in the tank when we got it......or rather the bottom grid was we just bought a couple of uplifters which slotted onto the grid.

Although I now have an EHeim 2215 that I will be putting on one of the tanks.........I am thinking of going "sand" but am not sure which tank it will go on.

Kitchen tank (long thin) now getting towards end of cycle.........nitrite spike currently in progress....... :/ .........soon be there........

......and yes CD.......it was a fishslice...... :D
