I am looking for a good line of aquarium heaters that are available for about $50 US or less. I have a Tetra in my 29, which works well now but a few months ago had issues controlling the temperature, which fluctuated about 4 degrees F. I took it apart and cleaned the bimetallic strip, which had some crud on it from who knows what. I've also gone through 2 cheap heaters (about 1 a year) in my 20 gallon. I would like to get a high quality heater that will last more to the tune of 5 years.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Justin.

I have a marineland submersible heater that I've used for a little over 4 years now ... I would recommend it.

I dont understand how people can cheap out on such equipment.

It only takes one time for all your fish to get fried by a heater that wont wont hold the temp you want.

deffiently go for a Rena smart heater.

they use ceramic not glass so they cant smash when out of water and they are more efficient when heating. they are also sleek and black with a led to warn you if the temperature is too high or low

problem is, even "expensive" units, just pack up! sticking and thermostat failing, are common to all makes. I've only had two fail. a juwel item, known to be crap. and an old Jager. (not known for being "cheap"). so, to me, it makes little difference. all the units, i have now, are "cheap", yet all 5 are still going strong. the eldest is, just on, 5 years old. and, as i always recommend, i use two heaters per tank. if you match the output, nothing can, really, go wrong. unless you never look at you tank.

I have been using mostly the Visi-therm line of heaters and have yet to see one fail, but I have read of other people having them fail. I also have a Rena heater that seems to be working fine after about 5 years.
