yes, he should be, as they are often classed as temperate fish.

the best thing to do though is to take the tank temp of the current one down .5 deg for a few days, and then put the goldfish one up .5 deg for a few days so they level abit, make sure you dont go beyond whats best for each type of fish, but i reckon he should do just fine.

mine do in an unheated 6gallon. :)

I was slightly worried about the tiger barbs bugging him but they couldn't care less about him. He stays on top and they stay in the middle. It's his own kind that are picking on him. I don't get it.

I also have my ten gallon..Do you think he would do okay in there?? The current residents ar elistent in my siggy...

wOw I just looked at your signature. Ok, I would not advise that you keep the goldfish in what you are nerver mind adding to it.

Maybe move it to the 10gallon but that seems to ahve a lot of fish in it too.

My understanding is that the "rule" for goldfish is one goldfish per 10 gallons. This depends a lot on what kind of goldfish you have, I would imagine, as I think this rule is based in the additional girth of the goldfish and how much more waste it produces as compared to say a barb or other slim-bodied tropical fish.

That is true, I do not think it's concrete (you can see from my signature that I don't follow it) but I would imagine there's big problems ahead for you and your goldfish if you keep them in a 1 gallon tank (is that US?).

I am a member of goldfish forums and there have been many petitions etc against such things as goldfish bowls and especially spongbob and cat in the hat ones.

How long have you had them in there? What are the parameters like?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I reckon so. If you got a 25US (20UK), that would be a nice size for your goldfish and maybe you could get a hillstream or weather loach or 2. :) I know it seems like a lot for 2 fish but they produce so much waste that they need that amount of water to keep it at acceptable levels. They also grow pretty big if given the room!

I wish I could give my fish 10galls each but it's just not possible for me, but it is for you.

:)

i thought the rule was 5gal per goldfish. maybe i'm remembering it wrong

There's no such rule! Goldfish are very messy, adn they don't fall under any myths that are circulating about freshwater fish. not to mention that they're coldwater fish and need to live in cold water. Trust me, I had three of them in my ten gallon with some other fish, and they were in pretty bad shape. I'd say that 1 gallon tank is only useful as a quarantine, betta tank, or shimp and frogs.

As for the danio, they're fin-nippers by nature. I can't find the info on your zebras in your sig... but I can tell you that most of your tanks are pretty highly stocked. You might want to just return it because they need more than a ten gallon tank.

I don't understand...are you going against the 10gall per fish rule or the 5gall, neither or both?

I definatley know that serious goldfish keeping sites (not just forums on a tropical site) all say that 10 gall per goldfish minimum. I have already said that I don not follow it but I have done as much as I can in moving my fish from the 16UK/19US to the 35UK/41US.

:/

That's a good rule to follow, if you have the right-sized goldfish...
But what if it's bigger or smaller? What if they grow? It's just like the one-inch rule.
