Not sure if this is a color variation on the zebra danio (have not checked the tag for scientific name). Anyways, since The-Wolf amazingly enough did not make an index on these guys, I've come here looking for an answer to that. Also, I take it that these should shoal with the leopards and zebras I have...

*edit* Scientific name is Brachydanio frankei

Hi
I can't do a profile of a fish I don't/have never owned :p

"Blue danios"could be one of three fish
Danio kerrii of which only the female is blue the males are yellow.
Devrio devario better known as Bengal danios
or I'm seeing a regular hybrid of D.choprae (Glowlights) & D."frankei" rerio (Leopards)
which come out grey/blue and are called longfinned blue danios in my area.
here is a pic of the F4 of that hybrid

BTW Brachydanio is no longer a valid taxa,
it is a valid junior synonym but the valid taxa is danio.

That would be it. ^_^

As for it being outdated, I'm only going by the tag on the tanks at the petsmart I work at. :p I remember you saying something about the Brachydanio thing, but I thought it best not to mess with the name.

You haven't kept 'em? Well, there's another fish to add to your danio repertoire.

Hybrids... generally I'm told hybrids are sterile. Do you know if these are?

And since I already have this thread, I want to ask if leopards and zebras can interbreed. If the answer is yes, the definition of a species is that it cannot copulate with a member of another species to make a fertile 1st and 2nd generation. Therefore, I am confused as to how the species and hybrid classification works. Can you help me out with that? :p

ok zebra danio danio rerio
leopard danio danio "frankei" rerio

the "frankei" refers to the guy who first created the colour morph of leopards from zebras
(I have still been unable to find out if Frank is a first or last name)
so as LDs are a colour morph of ZDs they will and do interbreed.
on that note all danios will breed with all other danios given the lack of their own species
and all devarios will breed with all other devarios given the lack of their own species,
however danios will not breed with devarios or vice versa.

generally speaking hybrids are sterile buy F4 at the latest.
(F0=wild; F1= first generation etc)

Intriguing information. So I guess I stopped listening to my professor at around F2. :p

So, being an F4 hybrid, they should be able to reproduce. $.99 each... I wonder how many I want to get. :p
