Ok so I have 6 long fin black skirt tetras. They mostly stay together and I noticed one hanging out near my plant alone all day yesterday. This morning when I woke up he joined back with his buddies but his tail is missing! It looks like it was chopped off with a knife it's a straight line. Well obviously I checked all fish for weapons before I added them (just joking) seriously though... It doesn't look like it was bitten off and none of my fish are really big enough to do that anyway... Is it possible for the tail to just fall off ? Help me please!

He seems very healthy aside from the missing tail, he is even swimming and eating like normal. I'm totally confused by this.

What else is in the tank? Is there anything in the tank that he could have got it caught on? Have you modified the filter intake at all, such that the tail could have been slicved off by the filter impeller?

I have 6 black skirts 5 zebra danio and 1 blue dwarf gourami. There's nothing in my tank that he could have got snagged on. The filter is all standard issue. He actually seems fine aside from his tail missing all his fins are in tip top shape and his coloring is also good. He ate normally today and swims fine too. Now my real problem is with one of the other skirts. I think he has fin rot.... He looks awful. I put him in a separate 5.5 gal hospital tank and I started giving him maracyn two. Is that a good course of action.... Do you have any suggestions ?
It's really crazy when I had to spend 145 dollars to save a fish that cost only $1.75. He's so pitiful looking and I had to at least try to save him. Hopefully my fish doctoring skills pay off.

... Also being that I moved one of the black skirts from the tank the other bst seem a bit nippy. Could that be possible with just one moved from the ranks,
