Lonely Sterbai Cory

About 3 weeks ago I lost a one of my Stebai corys. He doesn't seem to bond very well with my other two panda's, but hangs around with my clown loach and seems ok. Do you think I should replace his friend with another? Also are they ok in pairs or should I make the numbers up? Not sure I have space in my tank tho? However guppies will be leaving soon!!!

First of all, your two clown loaches aren't suitable for that tank I'm afraid and eventually you will need around a 75 US gallon tank for them. So if you could rehome them, you can increase your cory numbers and make them all happier.

Thanks for the advice! I purchased the clown loach last September because I had an investation of snails! They sorted that within 48hrs!! I was told they were a smaller species of clown loach and wouldn't grow as big as their counterparts and would be suitable for a 120 litre UK tank? Was he telling porky pies? They are approx 5cm long now.

wow they are still small, so not an immediate problem - but the sooner you think about a plan and make your corys happy too, the better . I can highly recommend Botia Kubotai (they only reach up to about 5" but you'd need 3 as they like to be in groups) or some much smaller Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki (previously Botia sidthimunkii) - though they'd need really to be at least 3 or more too. They are both snail eaters too

Hi,

Clown loaches grow 12 inches, even bigger in the wild. The pakistani loaches may grow 8 inches though most sites state 5, the wolf says he has some nearer 8. If you can't get any more sterbai corys, try to get ones with similar markings and they should hang out together. My sterbai and haroldshultzi (sp) corys stick together.
