I had a pair of golden german ram once.
they spawned a few times, really bonded. The female died. The male became shy and reclusive. Lost its colour, then died 2 weeks later. Died of loneliness, how sad. Bless them both.

Not sure how it's gonna help you, maybe you could introduce another female?

We bought a pair of Blue German Rams beginning of the year. Things were good in the beginning, then he didn't get on with the female, so we got him another one. It did take him a while to pick one and they spawned. We'd moved them to another tank, but his neglect of the female he'd chosen, led to her death (egg bound). :grr: We put him back in the community tank with the first female and he was happy to see her. They got on really well and then the other day, about 2-3 weeks ago, she just died  He did look forlorn for a while, but he's looking happier, especially since the pandas started spawning. He thinks it's free food  Out of all our fish, they have been the hardest to keep happy. Not sure if they can live alone, but our male does seem ok now and even hangs out with the 2 angels. :D
