HELLO ANYONE?

FRUSTRATION. 12 GALLON NANOCUBE SEEKING NEW FISH INHABITANT.
HAS 1 SMALL CLOWN. OTHER FISH... WELL .. AREN'T WITH US ANYMORE.
THE TANK IS ONLY 2 MTHS. OLD. JUST LEAVE THE CLOWN BY HIMSELF
UNTIL MY TANK MATURES? I HAVE 5 LBS. LIVE ROCK, CLEANER SHRIMP 1, ONE SNAIL, AND ABOUT 7 HERMIT CRABS. HAD AN ANEMONE- DIED WITHIN 3 WEEKS. I KNOW IT'S NOT SMART TO PUT ANEMONE IN NEW TANK, ESPECIALLY 12G. HAVE HAD A FEW FISH DEATHS IN THE VERY BEGINNING AND THEN THE MOST RECENT WAS A GOBIE. LFS GIVING OUT WRONG INFO? HE TOLD ME ANEMONE WOULD BE FINE, AND GOBIE WOULD DO GREAT. WATER TESTS FINE.
WATER CHANGE ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS OR SO. I AM MANAGING TO KEEP ONE THING ALIVE---ALGAE!!!

Did you cycle the tank before adding the fish? If not this may be why they have all died. With regards to adding another clown, it depends if the one you have has already matured into a male or female. If your one is a female and you add another female you could have problems. Could you give us more detail about what is in your tank and what the levels are and then I'll try and give some help (although I'm still quite new myself!) Good luck! :)

Well, I 'd like to know what your water parameters are first off. Did you let your tank cycle completly? Or did you just get all your fish and clean up crew at the same time? Did you do water changes after the few that died?

I don't think your LFS is giving you good info on the anemone. Depending on which one you have, they seem to move around the tank. I had a condy that would never sit still. They like certain things in your tank. Lighting, and flow. But they are very picky about it. If you didn't change the water imediatly after the anemone died, that could very well be your problem. I've heard they let out some nasty toxins after the die that can hurt your tank.

Also, in such a small tank, I would be doing water changes, every week at least.

my water paramaters have always been good. the tank cycled--completely
i'm not sure what you mean. my nitrates are 5 or less, ammonia 0-.25, nitrites 0, my ph 7.8. that is another question how do i raise my ph without getting more algae? i heard they feed off that buffer if you put it in. should i leave it at 7.8? yes i did a water change after the anemone. my water changes have been every 2 weeks. the only things in my tank now are a cleaner shrimp, crabs, 1 snail, and a clown, and live rock. thank you for your help. really!

Lots of algae...hmmm
Are you using tap water? I have been told that the phosphates in tap water will greatly increase the risk of algae blooms.
If you are using tap water, I would recommend a reverse osmosis unit to purify your water.
There is stuff that will help raise your pH level. It is called Osmo Prep.

Here is a link that I was given:

goodluck!

it sounds to me that you did not cycle your tank and added the
fish right away. if this is the case, every fish you put in will die.

you stated in your post that the tank is 2 months old. at the very least
half of that time should have been the cycling period. is this the case?

also as far as the anenome, they need very strong lighting at the
proper spectrum. what are you running for lighting?

if you answer some of these questions and the ones from the other posts,
we'll definitely get you on the right track!

i use distilled water. i think everything is fine now. my algae is gone---completely!and my clown is doing great. i'm just going to leave it as is for now. not add any more fish, going on vacation end of march. it finally looks beautiful like it did when i first started it. my hard work is finally paying off!

that's good to hear!

I think you are making the right choice in not adding any more for
now. I would wait a month, and if the clown is still doing well, then you
should be safe to add another fish.
good luck!
