Ive always had clown loaches, but ive only got one now...his friends died   when i moved home a while ago.

after a reacent trip to my local lfs i saw some nice sized ones and was wondering, can i add more clowns to a single one that has been on his own for about 7months(too long i know). i dint add any because had just moved the tank and didnt want to add any more fish.

im getting a bigger tank soon, (im trying to convince my gf to let me get a trigon 350), so could i add more loaches if i get a bigger tank??

Thanks

Danny

I can't see a problem ading more clowns.
the only thing I'd do is rearrange the tank,
so you distrupt the current clowns territory
then add the new ones.

thanks wolf, thats what i thought. they get more aggressive when they are single.

can i add smaller loaches, or do they have to be a similar size?

Thanks

Danny

I have added very samll clowns 1-2" with my 6-7" ones with no problems.
I think the larger clowns view them as kids and protect them, as they are very close at times.

I have seen a lot of pictures that had really big Clown Loaches and some really small ones. By the look of the pictures, it looked like the bigger ones didnt bother the small ones. The only thing I think to watch for is at feeding time. The bigger ones will probably not let the smaller ones eat the same things (eat on the same pellot, etc). I have also read that bigger Clowns will not school with smaller ones, but I think that depends on the attitudes of the bigger clowns.

i had two clowns that grew to about 5" and then lost one. i replaced it with two smaller 3" clowns and it took all of about 5 mins for the two smaller fish to be following the larger one everywhere he went which he didnt seem to mind one bit! he also seemed much happier with some same speices company!
