Loafing Loaches

i have botia almorhae, and i've noticed they are the strangest sleepers.

they often snuggle up under my air strip, the one side lifts up a bit off the sand, and they get in there so far you can't even see them.

this other one sleeps upside down..all the time..i thought something was wrong with him when i saw it before, he was laying upside down under a propped up shell, i tapped the glass, and he rolled over and seemed fine. I've noticed he does it all the time, tonight he's upside down under the leaves of a plastic plant. (he's being doing this for a few weeks, if not longer..he is ok though right?)

my other loach sleeps in a plastic flower, laying on his side, like a greek goddess waiting to be fed grapes or something.

they are the most comical little things, i love it

I've actually never noticed mine lounging upside down, but they do tend to lie on their sides in awkward positions. They also will lie "normally" and slowly fall over onto their sides.

as long as they are ok..it's hilarious to watch them.

My Botia kubotai often sleep on their sides in the roots of my java fern that's attached to some mopani wood. They also wedge themselves behind my filter in a really weird place. I have a Fluval 4+ which slides onto a piece of plastic with 3 suction cups on it to stop if falling over in the tank. The loaches swim up underneath between the filter and the suction cups in the tiniest little gap and fall asleep there. Sometimes they 'bunk' too with more than one loach in the little gap at a time. I thought they were dead when I first saw it, but I tapped gently on the glass and they woke up and swam off! They know how to give you a scare!

haha they are the funniest fish.

when i first got mine, i had to put something over the filter output because one was determined to swim into it

and i had a similar thing with one of mine sleeping between the suction cup for my heater and the glass. i'm glad he gave that up though i was worried he was gonna get burned.
