i would really like to build up a collection of loaches. my problem is that my tank is rather small and i already have 2 yo yo loaches and a small khuli loach. i would like to get a rainbow loach. my tank is about 35ltrs. is it too small for a rainbow loach? would there be too many loaches in my tank?

hi krishanu
are you aware that your yoyos have the potential to reach 8+"?

I would rehome them, or buy then a much larger tank.
then you can add to your kuhlie loaches as they are gregarious
and do much better in groups.
after that, provided you have a great amount of flow in the tank you could get
one or two rainbow loaches but I really think that adult ones would also be too big for that tank.

How about adding, after the kuhlies, a few botia rostrata or Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki both of which stay small and would be ok for your tank.

defiantly add more khulis.
then maybe make a nano hillstream.
then soemthing for the middle/top.

When you have a few fish in a tank, don't they grow to the size of the tank?
no
if you put lets say a clown loach which can easily get to 12"+, in a 24" tank, they become stunted.
they will grow to the size the biggest the tank can take but the stunting basicly shortens there life.
so if you put a big fish in a smll tank the fishes life will be shortened. :/
hope this makes sense.
