Hi

I've recently brought a new 35L BiUbe tank. I wanted to buy either a pair of small loach or small cory to keep it clean for me. The lfs advised against getting anything which feeds off the bottom due to the ceramic media used in place of gravel, which is very harsh and will wear off their barbs. They suggested either a sucker type fish or a loach.

I want something that will stay small (5-6cm), the only thing the lfs could recommend was a loach called "Sid The Man", which funnily enough they had an abundance of stock for.

Can anyone recommend anything else, or point me in the right direction to find the information on the "Sid The Man" Loach I can't seem to find anything about it on the internet.

Its gonna be 3 or 4 weeks before I stock the tank so there is plenty of time to shop around for the mot suitable fish so I thought i'd ask the experts :D

Many Thanks

Lilly

I'm not sure how you can get a loach or sucker-type fish that doesn't feed on the bottom.

Realistically though, you've got a very small tank. The only loach that is really appropriate for a 10 gal is kuhlis, but I wouldn't suggest putting them in there if you have a rough substrate as they are burrowing fish.

Also, the common loaches are shoalers, and do much much better in a group. ~10 gal is small for almost all of them as a single fish, even before you consider you need 3+.

Ghost shrimp are probably a better option for a cleaner with your tank size and substrate.

ps. the "sid the man" loach they're talking about is Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki.

Thanks for your help loachman.

I will endevour to find a lfs which can order me in a ghost shrimp then :D

well maybe you could change the substrate to something softer, like sand, then u could get whatever cleaner you wanted.

Well anything that would comfortably fit in your tank :shifty:

I dont think you can on the Bio orb/ube things because of how the filter works. It needs to be the large media they provide afaik.
