Is there any loaches suitable for my AR980? 215L, 3.5ft, stocking as per signature. Looking at Kuhli loaches but I think they need pH 7, but then they sell them in LFS with pH 7.5. Thanks

Adrian

Khulis should be fine in your tank, and ideally lots of them, ideally 10+ :) As long as they aren't a sensitive, demanding species (Khulis are not very sensitive), pH is not very important, provided extremes are avoided. ;)

Khuli loaches should be fine, most of the others need more open spaces.

Looking at your stocking, forgot to say, Khulis may be too small to be with the Cichlid or the Catfish. They'd certainly eat it :/

Any suggestions then? I'm hoping to get something a bit more interesting than corys. I have fine gravel in my big tank, and having seen how my corys behaves in both substrate, I can see why people say they should (almost) always be with sand.

I'm hoping to move the liver catfish on...

So you are looking for an interesting bottom dweller?

What about a single Purple Spotted Gudgeon (Mogurnda mogurnda)?
They usually just hover above the substrate. :good:

Or what about 5 Botia kubotai? If you haven't had them before, they are one of the cutest, playful fish you can find. :good:

Looks nice... hopefully they'll have them in my LFS...

Also it's about the same size as the Kuhli loach, isn't it? I know Kuhli loach are about 4 or 6 for £10 in my LFS.

They tend to be quite expensive, usually under £10 each. I think they are worth every penny

I went for zebra loaches in the end. Managed to get (the last) 5 from my LFS. One of them is "blind" in one eye (or appears to be anyway). Got 4 for £20 and the blind one for £3. They are so active and shoaling already. Very pleased so far.
