Hi All of you,

Have been reading with interest over the last 24 Hrs. And have just become a member.

My first tank cycled 2 weeks ago, by more luck than judgement can I say after reading these pages !

3 days ago I introduced 2 Cherry Barbs to the tank which already housed 4 Cardinal Tetras. The lighter of the 2 Barbs is fine but the darker one chases all and sundry around the tank, causing the Tetras to hide in a corner, is this normal behaviour ? or should I exchange it at my friendly fish shop ?
No harm has come as yet, to any of the fish.

I am a complete beginner and know nothing about fish behaviour so please be gentle with me.

I have an 18 gallon tank with a Fluval2 plus filter.

Thanks

If your tank exists due more to luck than judgement, you are very lucky. Your choice of fish is very good as you have not over-crowded, added fish slowly to the tank and you managed to cycle. Your cherry barb is likely male and the behaviour is natural. You can likely add a few more of the same species to spread out aggression and take it off of the tetras. They are somewhat territorial and do show aggression to their own kind though, so make sure they have places to hide.

Sylvia,

They have places to hide, so I will let the male have his fun !

Be prepared for more naive questions though.

Thanks
