 hi !!! i have a question! i have a platies. 2 males and 2 females. one of the females seems to be so fat comparing to another, looks like she is pregnant, but i had her for month and ahalf and  no babies!! Do u think she might still have babies????

If she had a dark spot on her stomach (you can see it through her skin), then she is pregnant. The darker and larger it is, the longer she has been pregnant.

Hi Aquagurl,

Platies were my first fish and I too never know when my fish are pregnant or not. The gravid spot does not seem to appear on my platies, only that every now and again, she looks fatter than usual.

During my regular water/filter changes, I have found on 2 separate occasions platy fry in the filter :(

I have also witnessed my platies eat their own fry so it could be the case that your platy fry have been eaten by their parents.

Maybe to make sure that your fry get a bit of a chance, you may need to get a breeder net (as suggested to me by crazie.eddie)

extra hiding places don't hurt either. e.g. plants/tubing....i've also recently seen my guppy fry hiding/hovering in 'trenches' that i have created in the gravel
