Livebearer Tank Setup

Hey i have a 40 gallon tank and i just cleaned it out. it needs time to heat up but it has a powerhead and a powerhead filter which i have know clue how to set it up. I am going to put my platys and guppys and swordtials in it. to cycle do I put some platys in it and wait till they get used to the H2O and bacteria forms an easier way would to put the filter from the other tank into the this one right

If you want to shorten the cycle on a tank, either use some filter media from an established filter in the new filter or clean the existing filter in the new tank. Either one will give you a nice starter colony of bacteria to get the new tank going. If you intend to do a fish-in cycle, which it sounds like you do, make that first stocking very light and then don't change it for a few weeks.
