Ok this is my understanding (probably wrong) of live sand. It is the stuff you buy from your lfs that says "live arag" or somthing like that and is supposed to have stabalized nitrifying bacteria in it right? Well I hear everyone talk about how their tank has live rock and live sand in systems that have been set up for months or years. So my next question is wouldn't any substrate left in a mature tank be/become live. And if so why do people bother mentioning it. It is a silly question I know but if it works like I think it does then saying I have live sand is as pointless as saying I have live ceramic rings in my filter. :S Someone please set me straight on this thanx

Yes, some people call the bacteria seeded stuff LS.

LS is also cultured like LR or taken wild and full of biodiversity- pods, worms, mollusks...yadda yadda yadda. LS can be gotten the same way as LR. Shipped to you- alive -cured or uncured.

Here where I live some people I know do LS collection out of the Puget Sound. These people are running cold water tanks with the local wildlife. Big curing job though.

Do a google search on LS and you will pull up merchants that sell it. Comes in varieties just like LR - Figi, Florida areas, etc.
