Ok this is my understanding (probably wrong) of live sand. It is the stuff you buy from your lfs that says "live arag" or somthing like that and is supposed to have stabalized nitrifying bacteria in it right? Well I hear everyone talk about how their tank has live rock and live sand in systems that have been set up for months or years. So my next question is wouldn't any substrate left in a mature tank be/become live. And if so why do people bother mentioning it. It is a silly question I know but if it works like I think it does then saying I have live sand is as pointless as saying I have live ceramic rings in my filter. Someone please set me straight on this thanx
