Live Sand Suggestions

My tank is 55gal.. 4ft by 1ft .. How many pounds of sand would be sufficient on a live sand substrate for a reef tank for this size?

Ah the venerable 55g. Probably 20-30lbs of sand with rock should do well. Only around an inch worth of sand but that should be more than enough. Dont bother with live sand, its a gimmick, just buy aragonite and let your LR seed your sand bed.
