Live Rock

Thier are 3 types of marine tanks. There is FO(fish only), FOWLR(fish only with live rock), and there are reef tanks. FO has no live rock and can be run perfectly. FOWLR uses the live rock as the filtration. A reef tank is a FOWLR with coral.

Any tank needs SOME time to cycle, even FOWLRs

and it was just approved by my Fish Only tank, the brown algae are out of control after the tank finished the cycle.
The FOWLR maybe a better choice.

The brown algae is just probably diatoms.

Live rock is not essential but I wouldn't have a Marine tank without it

As above, LR is not essential to have a marine tank, but, as I posted elsewhere, there is a big sign at Home Depot with paint brushes on it:
