i bought some live rock rubble for one of my external filters today.
only enough to fill the chamber sections up.
im thinking if taking all of the plastic chambers out and the sponge, and just putting laods of rubble live rock in their.
i have another external filter uthat has got carbon, bio balls and white polishing wool.
how often would i have to clean the exteral filter that has the live rock in?
as i am cleaming both external filters every week cause they have got the wool in them.

Any blind chamber...even with flow thru...will collect detritus etc. I'm not sure if this answers your question, but, my middle chamber on my 24G contains 3lbs of LR rubble and my chaeto. I gravel vac it once a month, rinse my chaeto, and scrape the back wall glass of coralline so that it doesn't imped the light penetration. SH

so it would be ok to leave the live rubble rock that is in one of my external filters for up to 3 weeks before it would need a clean?

Probably..but then...you'll get a better idea as you watch your nitrates. If it is at zero, you need to do nothing. If it creeps up, you'll clean it and see if it drops. SH
