I'm just trying to curb my desperation to get into our new house and get started on out marine tank...

would this setup be ok for a Live rock only tank

I've got a tropiquarium 88 sat in the gararge that i got as a marine kit from eBay,

It's 120l (about 35us gal), has 2 24" floresent tubes (marine) and an internal bio filter and also a fluval 304 external.

If I just wanted to get a few KG of live rock in it (possibly some shrimps) - would just the internal filter be ok?

Hi Smith.

I would ditch all the internal workings and stick with the 304. Use it primarily for circulation. This way if you have a need to run carbon or phosban for one reason or another, you can easily install it in the canister.

With an optimum amount of live rock, you won't need any mechanical filtration.
