Hi everyone I went out and bought my new tank 2day. It is lovely! It is 27.5 UK gallons and has a built in heater and filter. I added one bag of salt and mixed it in with the result of a cloudy salt storm, still have another bag to go.

My LFS said to me 2day that I couldn't put live rock on the live sand that I would have to have a layer of plain rock first. Is this true or were they just trying to get me to buy more stuff?

I didn't get any rock but got a bag of live sand which I will add to the tank once the salt has reached the right level.

Has anyone got any advice for me?
:D

If all rock and sand become "live" after an amount of time I don't see where it would make a difference. I have never heard that you can't put LR on LS especially since that is exactly what I did. Sounds to me like they are trying to get you to buy more stuff. The more fully cured LR you put in the easier your cycle will be and if its on LS that only seems better to me.

You can put live rock on live sand, but what they are saying is to put base rock in first. Base rock will become live rock in time, and it is less expensive. Sounds to me like they are trying to save you money.

If putting rock directly on sand, it will settle in adn be partially buried. No sense in doing this to expensive live rock. Use the base rock first as they suggest.
