Wondering if anyone runs a tank with live rock and no skimmer?
Problem iv ended up with is that the cupboard under the tank is to small to house a sump.
My tank is an akvistable expensive tank with a very nice metal top so the skimmer cant go on the side and would make a real mess trying to cut the side of the metal lid.
Tank is 720litres i have bought 100kg of live rock and was going to buy another 50kg depending on room when the 100kg goes in.
I have 3 koralia 5's for the flow.
I still have an eheim pro3 so was thinking of using that as a mechanical filtration instead of the skimmer?
Not ideal i know but obviously can only do what i can do.

Can't you get a HOB skimmer or is there not enough room behind the tank?

tank is 6'6x2x2
I dont have the original stand that came with the tank so just have a solid oak sideboard
No room behind the tank, the tank lid is the problem it wont sit on because of the design.
Its in my living room which has just been expensively decorated so me the mrs are pretty much in agreement it would look fookin awful on the tank too.
im really miffed because i bought an overflow box and another pump and tubing for £200, iv had the guy over from the pet shop who keeps marines he says no way on earth is my cupboard big enough for a sump big enough to run the skimmer.
The skimmer i bough is an aquamedic turboflotor 3000
After looking at it he is right
He keeps marines also, he said as it is Fish only if it were him he would put the live rock in and use the cannister for mechanical

Can you post some pictures? Where there's a will... there's a way lol.

Heeeey
It has been bugging me all night so had a shifty about and mess on and i have managed to, If i lift the thin access panel at the back of my tank and pull the plastic corner bit off it hangs on the back side, looks shocking like but its there and the two pipes go into the water, so cant ask for more than that!!
My dads real handy so i will come up with an idea for some thing to go over it to hide it, maybe a box or something?
Dont think my fish would be as healthy as can be without the skimmer.
So the ocean runner pump goes inside the tank yes? I bought it second hand no instructions and even looking on the web im bit thick lol.
Put the pump in the tank feeds up into the skimmer and out the other tube?

Yeah, the ocean runner pump supplies the skimmer with water and air.

If I may ask though, will this be Fish Only or are you going the full reef route? Cause if it's gonna be fish only and will not be housing messy predators, a skimmer is not necessary

You may also come up against problems with heat if you keep the lid on!
