I will be soon coming over to the salty side of live as soon as iv saved up to pay my friend that is going to sell me his marine set up.
He is selling it due to no time and space to keep it he's big into his snakes which take up all his space time.
I don't want to say how much he's asking for it but I would like to know if the live rock will be ok the tank his been sat for month's just with the live rock and water in it.
The water has been still will the live rock still be alive if you know what I mean when I set the tank back up.

Here's two pic's

Thanks Martin.

have powerheads been running all the time?

as in, constant flow in the tank?

Because that's essential i believe ;)

yep definately, you probably have a few dead spots now  (if you havent)

i would get rid of that juwel internal too, its a nitrate production factory.

If the pumps have been off for more than a few hours at any point, the rock is likely dead and essentially "reef bones". It would have no filtration value at all. With no food or fish going into the tank also, most of the live bit will be dead also. I'd ensure you friend is asking a price that reflects Xkg of reef bones, not LR if the pumps have been off for a long while as it will no longer be LR. If flow has been supplied, the rock won't be the best quality due to no food source and will likely need re-seeding anyway...

All the best

Pumps have been running all the time ( That's good news yer )

As rabbut says, without a source of ammonia for the bacteria that live on the rock to use, even with powerheads running it is unlikely it will stay live for very long.
Bacteria need a food supply, once it is exhausted, the bacteria will die.

How long has the tank been standing without fish??
Has the tank been fed with any food??

2months or so and it will be 1 more month until we move it to my place?

What would you say its worth with all the info iv give you so far?

It will not be live rock any more.

Have a look on ebay at the corresponding kg of reef bones or ocean rock. Not much at all though. Rabbut may be able to give you a price.

Great am not best pleased not I though it would just start back up and It would be ok after a month or so?

When I was asking questions before starting my nano, I did intend to use part live rock and part ocean rock. You need the live rock to seed the ocean rock with bacteria. I was told it would take months for the ocean rock to become live. Therefore I bought the whole amount I needed for filtration as live rock.

Hmm so in theory I could add more live rock to it but it will take more time to seed???

yes rock will seed but you have to take into account that you still need an adequate amount of live rock for your filtration

Can you ever have to much live rock.

Dose the rock in the pic's look dead I think there is still micro like in the tank.

This will be the first salt water tank iv had so am just doing my research.

yes you can have too much LR, 1-3/4lbs per gal should be the max. The rock in the picture looks like it's decaying, yes. I would advise you to research much much more, i'm going on 2 months of researching and am just getting ready to fill my tank with water. what kind of tank do you want? Fish Only With Live Rock(fowlr) or a reef?

Reef would be nice am just taking my time making sure I get it all right before I start.
