So i got some live rock from a seven year old tank last night, Very purple, and full of life, i do have a few questions tho about what i am seeing.

First in two different spots I have found what looks like an anenome, it has multiple clear tentacles with a small white bulb at the end they are completely clear. I thought maybe a form of aptasia until i touched it with some feeding tongs and the tentacles seemed to attack the tong... any ideas?

Second i found three different masses of a whitish yellow thing, thinking its a sponge they are a somewhat circular... im assuming these are going to die if they are in fact sponges should i remove them as to not cause an ammonia spike?

On a good note i have found about 5 starfish, 20+ feather dusters, and 40+ bristle worms, the copepods on these rocks are way to many to make an estimate on mysis shrimp. Its amazing what comes out of GOOD live rock!

Can you post a photo please, so we can have a look and ensure we get the id correct :good:

Leave the sponges, they may well survive the cycle :good:

Let teh pet rock watching begin - woo hoo

Will try to do that soon, also the rock i got is from the guy that had the 75G for sale so i got to take a look at the tank he dropped the price for me to 400 USD! So if its still available friday I will be taking it. I just think its too good of a deal to pass up.

ok here are some pictures not great tho couldnt get one of the sponge thing... i thought if these got out of the water they were done for? am i wrong?

Feather duster, there is also something else in this hole that hides when i shine light in there looks like some sort of filter will try to get a picture of it.

Gonna go crazy out on a limb here and guess a white ball Corallimorph for the "anemone." Do a google image search on that name or Pseudocorynactis and see if anything looks right. Some types can have clear bodies/tentacles with only the balls on the tips being easily visible.

Donya you are spot on! Thanks for the help! So sehould I try to get rid of these?

Unless you have very small fish/inverts (like Gobiodon okinawae or sexy shrimp) it will just be a cool addition to your tank. They are very hardy, won't reproduce out of control like Aiptasia, and can grow to look quite nice if fed regularly. They don't need to be fed, but when I had them I found it increased their size and body color substantially. Just use caution in with small critters, as a brush against one of those sticky white balls can mean demise for something that isn't strong enough to pull away.
