My sister and i bought our live rock from a chap off ebay, it was great :good: best way to buy it is from an established tank, pop it in some water to transport and have it back in the tank as soon as possible :good:

The rock on ebay works out at about £8 a kilo, which I am sure you know, cheaper than lfs, probably has a lot more life in and if you are close to them there will be less die off - however, you can get cheaper - have seen it for a £5 a kilo coming out of a tank break down.

Sounds like s/he has quite a lot of lr, you might just be able to bargain a £1 or so off the price :good:

Thats still a bit more than i would pay for live rock. I got mine for £6 from ebay. loads of life in it.

Check around aquarist classifieds/local reef clubs/hold out.

Another tip for ebay is to watch for some rock with a high starting price (like the one you are watching)

Wait for it not to sell and then email the guy and offer a lower amount.

I would be surprised if it would sell for £80 tbh.

+1 for aquarist classifieds

If you're looking to save money, always buy your LR "used" from a local aquarist. If you do find a good deal on ebay, there's nothing wrong with ordering that way. It'll just take a little more time for your rock to cure in your tank, and the patience that will teac you will serve you well in the marine world :)

I didn't mean to sound anti ebay rock. I'm not. I've bought 2 lots from there and been impressed on both occasions.

My point was that i like to get a bargain from ebay and £8 a kilo plus postage isn't a bargain.
