ive heard conflicting info on these types of live rock.

i can get fiji for £11

i can get indonesian for £10

which is better? which is most porous? which would i need less of?

im guessing it would work out cheaper to go fiji, i was thinking 12 kg of fiji to start (125 litres) then i would add a little more later on.

thanks your a legend :good:

You'll need much more than 12kg mate, my 15 is deffo nowhere near enough, its fiji too, thinking of getting another 5-10kg atleast!

going on the 1kg to 10 litres guide, it works out okay, but it will be lightly stocked. i will then cure another 5kg and add it. then i can increase my stocking. and corals come on LR too.

25kg is a bit excessive for a tank this size.

Have edited post above with link. It is not the one I originally found, what a surprise cannot find it now. It does at the side tell you how porous each type and grade are.

I went for Grade A Premium Fuji. Fuji does have a nice pink tinge to the rock itself and is very porous, meaning you will get more for the same weight as a less porous rock.

whats your opinion on the above? starting with 12kg and working up to 17kg?

thanks

I am presuming Rio 125 is 125 litres. The aquarium calculator says 14kg. For my size it said 10kg, and 10kg of fiji was definately enough, to be honest do not think I could have got another couple of kilo in.

No harm in reducing it by a kilo I suppose, especially if you will be getting any rubble. Leaves more space for corals, I will become restricted soon with which corals I can buy purely by the amount of LR it is attatched to.

May end up getting that hammer and chisel out after all.

i think 12 kg of fiji will be fine for B filtration plus you get something like 1/3-1/2 of a kilo with corals

yep 125 litres

Not a bad idea specially if you intend to have corals as they often come on live rock

Truck, Trod and I started off with approx 17 k each and now have loads more which came with corals etc. So I would say 17K for a 125/126 :good:

ps - but Truck, don't buy it from a lfs, there are too many bargains out there at the moment to pass by on :good: - sure someone from the forum who lives close to you would help out with transport if that is a problem

i would happily go to a fellow reefer, but its the mother  she thinks there going to be some wierdo that could do strange things to me

i was like  i can get a bargain!

im selling my monitor today and my old ipod, so depending on how much i get i may start off with 15kg and then save the remaining £20 for this lovely toadstool i saw  and that comes with a large chunk too.

I'm guessing the more the merrier so minimum is 14kg get that first then any extra with corals is a bonus!!!

Truck, surely no nasty man can get you if you are with someone from the forum, oh hang on, maybe they will turn out to be a nasty man! I'm not really making fun, she is of course right :good: Couldn't she go with you or what about Ben, doesn't he live close to you?
