I have 2 African cichlids in my turtle tank, I am curious (as I don't really know much about them or their behavior) if they prefer a highly planted tank or a bare tank? I have live plants so any suggestions on what types of plants they like best.

Thanks :)

Any fish will appreciate the cover that plants offer, although certain kinds of cichlids have a bad habit of digging plants up! What kind of cichlids do you have?

The greedy kind. :D I haven't a clue. I bought them at the LPS chain. I know, bad me. They are striped white and black, I can post pics, they haven't dug up the ones I have in for the turtle, it's a fairly well planted tank, but not considered "heavily" planted by any means. (The turtle has a fond pasttime of digging up plants also.)

Well then, you just might have a couple of Frontosa Cichlids. Which grow over 14 inches in length.:hyper:

As for plants, you can keep plants that do not require to be planted to thrive such as floating plants or Egeria Densa (Anacharis).

LOL! Okay, well they will work well for the 24" turtle I'm currently growing. :hyper:

Nope they need at least a 72" tank and in groups of 6+. They might not be frontosa's but ideally most african(rift lake) cichlids require a 55G (42") minimum to thrive well. Any chance of a larger set-up?

Nope. They are in a 40B and won't get a bigger tank until the turtle needs it. And I'm not getting 6. The tank is for the turtle, not the cichlids.
