I have read quite recently that wingless or flightles fruit flies can make a good live food. Fruit flies are only a couple of millimeters long and due to their simple amount of chromasomes can be bred with unusual features like twisted wings very easily. I have seen these in the shops for small reptiles and baby mantids but would like to try them for fish if there is no serious downside.
Anybody used them or know of any reason why i shouldnt, the last thing i wanna do is foul the tank with unsuitable food. The other bonus is that they breed in their little pots of food mixture to produce several generations-continuous supply!
Cheers :D

Feeding flies will not harm your fish and are a useful food to feed to surface dwellers that can otherwise be difficult to feed (ie small african butterfly fish and hatchet fish). I have used fruit flies on numerous occasions but find i tend to run out before they can repopulate themselves so have to keep buying them
