I have a peacock eel that is about 7" a the moment. I've tried feeding him frozen shrimp, frozen bloodworms, and live bloodworms. The only thing he's eaten has been live bloodworms. The problem with this is that they burrow under the sand and live for at least a few days and then die. I don't want them down there poluting the sand. Is there any food i could feed my spiney peacock eel that won't burrow?

We have a fire eel. he likes his jumbo bloodworm too, but he also loves the ghost shrimp. We have to make sure that he gets small ones though bacause although he's a foot long he only has a tiny mouth.

I haven't been able to find ghost shrimp unfortunately. And i've heard they're 1$ a peice. Thats too expensive for me. Do you know if eels need to be fed as often as other more normal fish?

That's a shame, we buy them for £0.60 for 30!

Our eel is fed once a week when he eats like a horse and he seems to be thriving.

My eels feed on lance fish, and are treated to live food now and then. On this note have you thought of small guppies/mollies, they can accept long thin food and can hand trained

That's quite a deal! They aren't quite that cheap around here... but they are at least somewhat reasonable, they go for about 20 cents each.

When your feeding eels live fish or shrimp how do you make sure the eel is the fish that gets it. If i were to drop a ghost shrim in my tank they would be devoured by every fish before the eel had a chance.

Simple. The eel is the only predatory fish in the tank!

I don't have that luxury. Right now my eel is probably the only fish that could eat a ghost shrimp, but when my red fin shark grows larger he might eat them too. And i don't know about tiger barbs, but i guess they could just all tear a shrimp apart and eat it. And i'm planning on getting clown loaches and i know theyd eat live food.

strange my tyre track eel is doing fine on frozen bloodworm.

although if it makes a difference mines pretty young at 4-5inch. My fire eel which is saved at work takes frozen aswell.

I swear it was in this thread but i read somehwere, to put the food in a narrow necked bottle so only the eel would beable to get in, if you put this in the same place each when feeding the eel will get used to it and go straight there.

Thats a really good idea. I've been using a turkey baster for feeding my eel bloodworms. That way i can just shoot a few out right near the eel. The eel always swimps right up to the turkey baster now. He's definitely the most intelligent fish i have. I'm sure he'd catch on to that bottle idea fast too. Thats an awesome idea. I can put live bloodworms in a bottle. That way they can't burrow, and my eel can still eat them
