Hey guys,

I'm now at the stage of cycling my aquarium. Currently awaiting my live rock. Its not planning on a reef yet, maybe one day, but only time will tell how things develop.

Whist I wait for the next couple of months atleast for this process, I've been trying to complie a list of fish/critters I am interested in and may possibly get.
REMEMBER - I may not get all of these fish (or any :p) its just a way for me to get some ideas on what types I might look into getting.

Let me know if you think any of these might have problems with each other:

Common clownfish
Saddle Back Clownfish
Sebae Clownfish
Red Tomato Clownfish
Yellow Damselfish
Yellowtail Damnselfish (I think its called this, its blue and yellow)
Three Stripe Damselfish
Cardinalfish (the little black and white ones)
Pearly Jawfish
Poor Mans Moorish Idol
Copperbend
Flame Angelfish
Blue Tang
Three Spot Domino Damselfish

Blue Leg Hermit Crab
Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Boxer Crab

I found this chart pretty useful with regard to compatability, although I would only use it as a general guide.

Compatability Chart

Yea your right its pretty good.
But really lacks in details. I really wanted to know if the certain types of clowns act differently to each other.
Aswell on the rest of them. I've seen a few C's in that guide. No N thru (which i guess is pretty good).

I'm no expert and all my information is from what I've read in books but the word that seems to come up frequently to describe most damselfish is 'pugnacious'. In other words, once mature they will quarrel and fight/bully other fish in the aquarium. All depends on tank size of course.

It might be an idea to try pick up a book such as the Pocketexpert guide to Marine Fishes by Scott W. Michael. I've found this book to be almost a necessity when it comes to choosing my stock.

Yes damselfish (excluding clownfish and chromis) are very aggressive, even to larger fish)

flame angels may eat corals
tangs in general are prone to ich, and are usually aggressive towards other tanks unless in a large tank.
clownfish are best with one pair per tank, most species don't get along with each other, although some people can get away with more than one pair.
Moorish Idols aren't really suited to captivity, not many people can keep them alive for more than a year or two.
Cardinalfish are peaceful, and don't move much, they usually just drift
jawfish need 4-5 inches of sand to make their burrows, the sand can't be fine sand, it has to be different sizes.

a poor mans idol isnt a moorish idol its alot more hardier and is similar to a wimple fish, which in all the books ive read state that there hardier and easier too look after then morish idols.:p
i want a poormans idol hopefully get one soooon !

Oh, I thought it was just another common name, sorry 'bout that!

i made the same mistake before :p tis an awesome fish! dunno wat its min tank size or agression levels are cant remeber!

the clownfish will have a free for all killing eachother, pick one type, the damselfish will be really aggresive...how big is the tank going to be?

260Lts Juwel Vision. Sand bed is atleast 4" deep in the lowest part, and about 7" in the highest.
I got kinda carried away. 25kg new crushed coral sand, 10kg old coral sand, then 10lb so called 'live sand'.

Damn clowns, why cant they all just get on with each other. Ok will need to narrow it down to one type.

Whats the best type of starfish for a begginner to have? Btw my tank currently has about 25-30x turnover (i think).

"Whats the best type of starfish for a begginner to have"

None - it will starve in a new tank.

"Whats the best type of starfish for a begginner to have"

None - it will starve in a new tank.

Ok let me rephrase that. What is the easiest/most hardiest starfish to keep?
(THE ONE THAT I SHOULD LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING ONCE MY TANK IS FULLY CYCLED< MATURED AND COVERED IN ALGRE AND STUFF)

What's the footprint dimensions of the tank? Length and front to back?
