Does a rabbits coat change for winter? The reason i'm asking is because i have a lionhead rabbit has lost his mane!? It was long and fluffy and now its short and stubbly...

I'm not too sure on lionheads, but normally you'd expect rabbits to gain fur for winter (although ours prefers piling on even more fat).

Yea he moulted in the summer but still had his mane but now its gone :S
And he has put on weight aswell!

Ohhhh, he's absolutely adorable! My bun bun Fritz doesn't look like he's gotten any fluffier either. Maybe because they're domesticated and don't quite feel the need to??? Don't take that as an answer though, just a guess!

Lionheads are a very new breed and lots of them do loose their manes when they grow up. Especially new generations.. F1, F2.. Only generations 4 and up are considered purebred. There's also two genes for the mane. Some lions have both genes, others have only one (1XM & 2XM). I'm betting you have an F1, 1XM.

I don't believe you have a purebred lion there. The ears should be short and pointed and the broken color pattern is not anything that is being developed by serious breeders. Did you get paperwork with the rabbit?

I don't know about the mane, but what a cutie pie!!!

Aww your bun is gorgeous!!!!!

Smudge moults a few times in the year and he loses his smudge on his nose too in the spring. ( It comes back in the winter) Both of mine have already had a small moult this year!!!

I know he isn't a pure breed but his mane was relly long and now it's not!
This topic is 3 months old now aswell!
