My friend said her lion head fan tail? floats up to the top of his tank when he stops swimming about. He swims around normally and as soon as he stops he floats back up to the surface. Is this ok or is there a problem???

Need more info on size of tank in gallons or litres, how many fish and which type, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What does she feed the fish.

Oh flip! quite a good size tank.Only the one fish---Lion head (cap) fancy double tailed thing don't know about the rest she and I are new to fish keeping

Get water stats, sound like a swim bladder problem will need to know what she feeds the fish, for now shelled peas and frozen daphnia, cook the peas for a few minutes in boiling water, let cool, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.

She feeds him a granual type food and always has, but she has only noticed him doing this today she said

Well goldfish are prone to swim blader problems that why you have to keep them on a very good varied diet.
To many dried foods can cause constipation and swim bladder problems.
You will need to introduce frozen foods to the diet and veg.
Don't feed the flakes for a day, just the peas, and soak the flakes for now in tank water for a few seconds before you let the fish have them.

 thanks will tell her to try that. D the peas have to be the frozen sort or can they have the tinned sort  with the shell off?

Frozen peas are better, if you use tinned pop them out of the shell, good luck.

She will try peas, what other things can she use to vary the diet? What is daphina?

Daphnia is a water flea that helps the fish digest it's food, bloodworms, brimestrimp, micro worms etc.
Veg broc,cabbage, sproats,cucumba, spinach.

Do you introduce the veg raw? Sorry for all the questions, but she is so worried

I have always steered clear of flake food with fancy fish..they just gulp the food and air as well. In the summer I feed mine mostly on live food. This time of year feed every other day on the sinking fish food especially for fancy fish.
