Linka Starfish

hey all,

i was thinking of adding a linka to my reef, will that be ok ?
They don't tend to do very well

IMO you are much better off with serpent & brittle stars

much better survival rate and an excellent addition to your clean-up crew

I agree. Brittles and serpents are fun too. They can cruise fast and will come for food if not threatened. You can literally feed them by hand (or long tweaser :) ). Linkia eat bacteria slime only, as far as I understand it. Since they get realitively huge they need a good amount of surface area to eat that slime off of. We go off the 150lb per linka rule (and not piled into a mass they can't get around). That should give it enough surface area that they don't decimate their own food source. I have never seen one take any kind of food.

I had a linka and it died, sad fact of life is they look really nice but dont do very well for the hobbyist!

Asteroid starfish are poorly understood animals, snd sadly the vast majority do not live long in aquaria. In fact for most the long term survival rate is less than that of anemones.
