Hi folkes wonder if any of you can help. I have a 180 ltr tank with mollys and sword tails in, 2 Dwarf gouramis, 2 perl gouramis, 5 harlequins, 2 plecks and 2 cat fish.

One of my dalmation mollys seems to have gone limp, still swimming but his tail droups downwards and he seems like he has no go in him.

The other fish seem to be having a nip at him now a though they know there is something worng. They never did this before.

He just seems to be hanging around one spot and not swiming very far with a limp tail.

tank is at 80 deg
180 ltr
fluval 4 plus
no medication in tank
live plants in tank
feed once a day
Molly in question been in for 3 months.

hope you can make sence of this

thanks in advance
Elektron.

Do the molly have clambed fins ? Recently added new fish?

yes the tail fins seem to be clamped up, and I added the 2 perl gouramis and a pleck last weekend, these fish have been very peaceful and not bothered any of the other fish.

Many thanks Elektron

The molly is now being picked on quite a bit and it is having its tail fin nipped as it is not moving about as normal, I do not have a hospital tank at the moment so can not remove it. Any one got any ideas.

Help needed please.

Regards Elektron

What I think is happening the gouramies are picking on that Molllie when you are not looking or the mollie is iritated by something.Check for it scrathing itself againt rocks or plants.

I also had one Platy doing this and it turned out it got whitespots and infected all other fish.

Normally clambed fins is the sign of any stress a fish is in caused by disease, bad water quality or being picked on.

What you need to do.Watch your fish for several hours and see if picking is going on.Watch them from a distance and not upfront as Ive seen fish just thinking of food when you are close and dont do anything ells than wait for food.

Secondly if you can see no picking start to look at every single fish in your tank for any simptoms of disease or stress.Nipped fins.White spots any tipe of un-natural visual and acted on it.

If you are unable to find any of the above I would take out the Mollie and place it in a Hospital tank if you do have one and observe it like that. Also is it a male??? My platys sometimes do that when they are dancing for the females. The more dominant males will pick on them and they develope clambed fins that last for several days. ( Its like they are in shame. )

Let me know of your findings.

What fish are picking on the Mollie?I dont know if you know this but Gouramies are agressive fish.

It seems to have developed somewhat now, my other Molly seems to be ill it is still and has its mouth open all the time.

The original Molly im sure will be dead by the morning as most of its tail has now been nipped off due to it being motionless.

All my other fish are fine apart from my 2 molly`s who seem to have rapidally changed in the last 2 days.

The only other think I have noticed about my other fish is that their colours seem to be much brighter if this is any help.

Hope some one can pick something from this info and help me out

Regards, and starting to worry alot,

Elektron

first molly now dead, 2nd looking not to good. This has all happened within 2 days.

Anyone got any advice?

Regards Elektron

Both my Dalmation Mollys are now dead, the other died 12 hours after the 1st. The other fish seem fine at the momet.
I have got a water testing kit today and here are the results

Ph - 7.8
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrate NO2 - 0 ppm
Nitrate NO3 - 10 ppm

The only thing I can see is that the Ph is a little high, can anybody help into why my mollys died so quickly after becomming ill.

If it is the PH what is the best way of bringing it down, and can it be done without adding chemicals to the water.

Can anyone out there help with this as I dont want to loose anymore of my fish.

Thanks Elektron
