I was Just flipping Through the Fish index and saw that a Lima Shovelnose can be kept in a 55. Would One be Ok in My tank when the Fish grow Some. I would wait for all the fish to be a minimum of 6" before getting one. I would also Rehome the gourami to a friend. I am Not Really Set on getting One so Just state your opinion. Also what is Best To feed them?

I'm pretty sure there fast growers and would soon over take any of your cichlids and eating them pretty quick.

they would eat anything meaty going really.

I know they get big but i dont think it could eat anything after 6" right? All my fish get to at least 8" except my Male festivum but i dont know if it is a male. I am just going by what i read in the index. It says that they will eat any fish under 4" so a 6" would be fine. I may be babbling complete bull but that is what i was thinking

O geez. Ok i am 99% convinced not to get one. If i see one that is in a LFS and not eating small fish i may check it out but I dont want to part with all My fish for one really big catfish. Thx guys.

I disagree with that, it should be changed. Limas will outgrow a 55g in no time. A 55g is only 12" wide and limas grow to be ~15" long ( i know someone who has an 18" lima).

A 55g should be 48x18x18" , a 48x12x18 only holds about 45 gallons. A 48x18x18" 55 gallon tank is fine for a single lima.

my 55 is taller than 18". I cant tremember the exact size but it is somewhere around 1' 9" or somewhere in that vicinity. Its probly Not wide enough so Looks Like No LIma. The pictus's are gonna be ok though right?

I wasn't sure what the measurements on a standard 55g were. 18" wide is better than 12", but i still think limas should be in a larger tank. Just because they have long feelers and are pretty skittish.

I think youll find that a tank which is 48x12x18 only comes up at around 42.5 US gallons, it is a popular internet misconception that a 55g is only 12" wide.

40 litres = 10 US gallons

220 litres = 55 US gallons

48x12x18" tank = 170 litres which is 50 litres short of being a 55 gallon tank.
