SoI just bought a new light fixture, 36 inch twin bulb. They are 30 watt, 6500K lights 'Daylight' bulbs. Now maybe I am just used to my other 1 20 watt bulb. This new one looks very green. Is this normal?

yes a little bit of green is normal. You said "daylight", are they generic bulbs like those found in home depot or something?

I got them at a lighting store. They are phillips bulbs. I wasn't about to spend 35 dollars a bulb at the pet store, so I got both of these for 15. The old one that I had before was an aqua-glo. I'm sure that I am just not used to the extra light that I am getting

hmm, it all depends, how big is the tank, how deep is it, and what kind of plants are you putting in?

The tank is a 35 gal, 18" high. I'm not going over the top with plants. I dont really think I can have a ton. I have less than 2 wpg. I just want to make it look more natural.

As long as its within the 5000-7000K range I belive its alright and if it's a full spectrum bulb kind of depends on the bulb too.

Both of them for 15$? That's a good price. Why didn't you decide to get 3 instead? And can I buy these bulbs at any lighting store? What about Home Depot? I'm looking to make a new hood for my 33 gal. and what you have seems great! I'll prolly try to add one more tube if I can.

Also, since you bought these lights I assume you've already made your hood. I remember a thread of yours in the DIY forum asking for advice on how to make it.

edit - what a coincidence, when I bought the tank 2nd hand it came with an aqua glo as well. I just might be posting the exact same thing as you are soon... :p

what he said

Yeah, I got the hood done. I'm so happy with it. The angles were hard, but totally worth it.

I would have gotten 3, but the store didnt have a 3 foot, 3 tube fixture
