Hi.

I just went out and bought 2 single sockets, a central heating timer and 6m of flex.
I wired one socket to the HW side of the timer and the otherto the CH side and plugged my lights in.
I now have lights on a timer but I don't know how long I should have them on for.
I'm not bothered if I encourage algae growth cos I have 2 algae eaters in the tank.
Anyone got any ideas?

-Paul
EDIT: I also have live plants in there too...

if it's got plants, i would say 10- 12 hours. What you've done sounds complicated? why didn't you just buy a timer and plug it in?

I'm a sparky. it was simple.
I don't trust plugin timers. I've seen them cause fires before.
I now have a nice neat looking easy to setup timer controling my lights instead of a big bulky plugin timer keeping me awake at night and 2 extra sockets. (I was running out :/ )

Thanks for the replies.

-Paul.

seven to eight is plenty. or you will be over run with algae. Also to long a time frame will force your plants and then you will have to start feeding those etc. etc.
