After midnight every night I usually just put my moonlight LEDs on in the tank so you can still see just about what is going on, is it ok to switch off all of the lights or should I always keep these on until morning?
I have no coral :p

again its up to you. On the reef there isnt going to be many times where its really dark - Stars, the moon and the glow for city's etc.

I leave my tank pitch black for at least 8 hours every night and its fine, my fish seem to realax and go to be more if its dark. Save the electric and turn them off when your done imo.

With corals, the only real requirement is 8 hours of full lights at some point for the photosynthetic species...
